5 Home Maintenance Tasks to Start the New Year
The start of the year is a great time to get your home’s maintenance off on the right foot. Starting good home habits now can help you prevent problems in the future and catch any issues as soon as they arise. Here are a few ideas to get started
Change Your Air Filters. When was the last time you changed your home’s air filters? They should be changed every 3 months or more frequently if you have pets or family members with allergies. Schedule Professional Services. Now is a great time to get on the schedule for any professional services your home will need throughout the year. Schedule your carpet cleaning, furnace inspection, blind cleaning, and chimney sweep for the coming year so you don’t forget when the time comes.
Start a To-Do List. We all have things in our home we would like fixed. Start a to-do list somewhere in your home so you don’t forget what needs to be done. Throughout the year you can start completing these tasks and checking them off the list.
Inspect Leak Prone Areas. Leaks often go undetected until it’s too late. Make a habit of regularly inspecting leak-prone areas. Places like your basement, attic, areas around your windows, and underneath sinks are big target areas. If you notice moisture where it shouldn’t be, make a plan to fix the problem immediately.
