If you aren’t able to access the exterior of your roof, you can keep an eye on your roof from the interior of your home. The best way is to periodically check your attic for potential signs of problems. If you suspect your home has damage, here are a few ways to spot them from the inside.

  1. Your ceiling or walls have water stains. Stains on your ceiling or walls could indicate a leak. If you’ve noticed stains appearing in your home, it’s a good idea to check your attic for signs of a potential leak.

  2. Outside light is coming through your roof. When you’re in your attic, take note if there is outside light coming through the roof. This could be a big indicator that your roof is missing shingles or has been damaged in some way.

  3. Your energy bills are unusually high. If you’ve noticed your energy bills are unusually high, your roof could be the issue. Heat could be escaping through your roof, causing your home’s heating to work overtime.

  4. Your attic has moisture. If you noticed moisture in your attic, it’s very possible your roof has a leak. When it rains or the snow melts, keep an eye on the potential leak to see if that is the source of the problem.
